Celebrating Doctor's Day 2023

We are so excited to shine a spotlight this Doctor’s Day on all of the dedicated physicians who make Heart to Heart’s work possible! For more than 30 years, we have had the great privilege of working with doctors who hail from a variety of renowned cardiac centers across the United States and hold a wealth of knowledge in their respective subspecialties.

In the field of pediatric cardiac medicine, there are four main subspecialties: cardiology, surgery, anesthesia, and intensive care. Cardiologists are responsible for examining and diagnosing, in addition to providing lifelong medical care for heart patients. Increasingly, cardiologists can even repair heart defects through interventional cardiac catheterizations. In cases where a heart defect must be repaired through open heart surgery, two or more doctors must be present in the operating room, a cardiac surgeon and an anesthesiologist, in addition to other technicians and team members. Post-operatively, an intensive care doctor (aka intensivist) continues to monitor and care for the patient in the ICU.

On cardiac training missions, Heart to Heart volunteer teams work alongside local specialists to diagnose, treat, and care for babies and children born with heart defects. Today we celebrate all medical doctors and the life-saving work they do.

A big thank you to all of the amazing doctors who support Heart to Heart!
