In Honor of Nilas Young, MD

Dr. Young showed me how to do selfless good deeds. He introduced me to volunteering with an open heart, showed me how to love helping people with all of my heart. He treats everyone like family. Because of him, I fell in love with cardiac surgery.
— Olesya Shinkarenko Surgical Technician UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA

Behind every successful team are strong leaders. Today, we honor one of ours, Heart to Heart Founder & Medical Director, Nilas Young, MD, as he reaches an important personal milestone.

After 50 years (yes, 50!) of clinical practice in cardiac medicine, Dr. Young has officially retired from his position as Professor & Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of California Davis Medical Center. We extend our most heartfelt congratulations to him! Throughout his career, Dr. Young operated on thousands of heart patients – in addition to mentoring hundreds of aspiring cardiac specialists – both at home and abroad. Patients, students, and colleagues alike have consistently expressed profound admiration for Dr. Young, and gratitude for his steadfast kindness and guidance.

Dr. Young has made unparalleled contributions to the expansion of cardiac care to people of all ages across four continents. The guiding light of his leadership shines as brightly today as it did more than 30 years ago when he helped to establish our organization. Today as Heart to Heart continues to develop life-saving heart programs for children and adults around the world, we acknowledge and celebrate Dr. Young’s lifelong commitment to the advancement of cardiac care.

Congratulations and thanks to Nilas for his kindness and wisdom! All of us excitedly look forward to many more years of his leadership through his ongoing voluntarism with Heart to Heart!
