Our new partner site in Russia

In September 2013, we conducted our first mission to Kaliningrad, the site of our newest collaboration – our sixth in Russia. The Kaliningrad Federal Cardiac Center is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, operating rooms, and cardiac intensive care units. The newly formed pediatric heart team is eager to collaborate with Heart to Heart – together over the next five years we’ll work to bring world-class heart care to the children of Kaliningrad and the surrounding area.

During our mission, the Heart to Heart-Kaliningrad joint team examined and diagnosed over 50 babies and children. Cases were discussed in team-wide daily conferences to determine each child’s best course of treatment. Our founder Dr. Young performed four cardiac surgeries on adults with valve disease and gave a presentation on cutting-edge TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement) technology. Heart to Heart will work to develop both the pediatric and adult cardiac departments in Kaliningrad. And we will use Kaliningrad as a platform to provide advanced education and training to the other six “sister” federal centers newly installed throughout the country.

On this mission we were lucky enough to have two videographers join us to interview our Russian colleagues and patients and document our work. Watch the video.
