Cardiac Care in Armenia: need and opportunity
Approximately 375 babies are born with congenital heart disease (CHD) in Armenia every year. That may seem like a small number when compared to the U.S., but because CHD treatment is limited, too many children in the country still lack access to the life-saving care they desperately need. And each year, the backlog of children waiting for surgery grows.
After conducting two successful site assessment visits, a Heart to Heart team of cardiac doctors, nurses, and other specialists were scheduled to travel to Yerevan, Armenia in April 2020 for an exploratory surgical-educational mission. Due to Covid-19, we had to postpone this mission. Nonetheless, we are confident that in the near future, our dedicated volunteers will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with Armenian doctors and nurses to advance and expand heart care to treat all children with CHD in this country.
